< Back Moaning Caverns Adventure Park (209)736-2708 ... https://moaningcaverns.com/ 5350 Moaning Cave Road Vallecito, CA, 95251 Moaning Caverns was discovered in the 1840s by gold miners but there is evidence of arrowheads and other pointed tools that appear to have been quarried in the area, date back thousands of years and tell us that the first humans on the continent may have lived near Moaning Caverns. Artifacts and bones found in the cave date back hundreds of years and give us some insight into these ancient people. A necklace, displayed at our visitor center, was found in a clay layer and is estimated to be over 8,000 years old! Our name comes from the moaning sounds that echoed out of the cave. Miners may have heard that sound when they came to this area in large numbers during the late 1840s. In their search for gold, they explored the cavern, entering through the small natural entrance and then lowering themselves to the floor of the main room by means of a large ore bucket on a winch. They used candles and whale oil lamps for light. Today you can explore Moaning Caverns on a cave tour, deep underground! Previous Next

< Back KVGC 96.5 FM 209-223-1340 news@kvgcradio.com https://kvgcradio.com/ 163 Main Street, Jackson, California 95642, United States KVGC 1340 AM and 96.5 FM, HomeTown Radio , is the only daily source of live news and information for Amador and Calaveras Counties. HomeTown Radio began broadcasting as KNGT-FM over 30 years ago and has been a fixture in the foothills ever since, providing local news, community access and emergency broadcasts. Over the years, HomeTown Radio has featured a wide range of local talent, including Cedric Klute’s Tales of the Motherlode , the Master Gardeners’ Minute, Steve Muni’s HomeTown Kitchen, high school football and teen programming, jazz and oldies music by local DJs, and weekly broadcasts by local clergy. HomeTown Radio has been heard for the past several years over the Internet and on an SCA subcarrier channel. In 2003, the former KNGT-FM station was purchased by a media conglomerate for broadcast to Central Valley audiences, and foothill listeners lost access to local emergency and news broadcasts. Jim Guidi, long-time operations manager and on-air personality for KNGT, and his wife Teresa reopened the Jackson station broadcasting on the SCA band. KVGC 1340 AM & 96.5 FM is the culmination of a several-year quest by Jim Guidi, to get the only local source of radio news and information back on conventional airwaves. “This is a very exciting time for all of the HomeTown Radio family – listeners, staff, and advertisers,” said Guidi. “Listeners in the region can now get HomeTown Radio local news and information from their cars, home stereo systems, battery-powered radios during power outages -- no special radios required!” “I’ve been working for the last seven years to bring HomeTown Radio back to a wider audience and expand our connection with the community,” Guidi said in 2010. “As a life-long broadcaster, this is my dream come true.” Previous Next
